Universities here

Universities in Karlsruhe district, biggest first.

KIT spans the city–district boundary: Campus Nord is in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, while Campus Süd is in Karlsruhe city. Check where your teaching or research actually takes place before choosing accommodation. KIT locations (opens in a new tab) Karlsruhe’s other nearby universities also make the district worth considering as a commuting base. Rail connections serve towns including Ettlingen, Bretten and Bruchsal, but the walk or bus journey at either end matters. Housing

Start searching early and keep several locations in play. Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe reports particularly strong demand for single rooms at semester starts and recommends extending searches to suburbs and considering a shared flat together. That is useful regional guidance, rather than evidence that every district town has the same market. Its own residences are listed in Karlsruhe city and Pforzheim. Budget for the full warm rent, transport and university costs separately. In 2026, KVV lists the Deutschlandticket at €63 per month and the D-Ticket JugendBW at €45 for eligible young people, including qualifying students through age 26. Check eligibility before budgeting for the cheaper option.
